The Delta Blues Museum and CARES (Clarksdale Animal Rescue Effort & Shelter) present the Deep Blues Festival 5k Run/Walk, October 14th in downtown Clarksdale.  Proceeds will equally benefit the museum and the animal shelter.

 

Register ONLINE ($25) at deltabluesmuseum.org by October 13th or on race day October 14th at 7AM at the Wade Walton Blues Trail Marker on Issaquena Street.  The race/walk begins at 8AM and runs to the Shack Up Inn.

n/a n/a Tennessee Williams festival

"Walking into Clarksdale", the 25th annual Tennessee Williams Festival, will take place October 13 and 14 with events at a number of locations around town.

 

The walking tour begins at 9AM Friday at Haven United Methodist Church and continues until 4PM with stops at Messengers, First Baptist Church, the historic Hotel Clarksdale, Carnegie Public Library and the former rectory of St. George's Episcopal Church.

 

There will be a grand reception at the Cutrer Mansion, 109 Clark Street at 7PM Friday with music by David Dunavant and a theatrical production of "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof".

 

On Saturday students will participate in a monolouge competition, scene competition and Stella calling competition in the Georgia Lewis Theatre on the campus of Coahoma Community College, 3240 Friars Point Road beginning at 9AM.

 

Saturday afternoon the festical moves to Clarksdale's historic district with "porch plays" (scenes from Tennessee Williams plays performed in the neighborhood where he spent his childhood) at 203 Court Street, 415 Court Street, 235 Clark Street and 41 John Street.  Q&A sessions will follow each performance.

 

Saturday evening a Tennessee Williams movie will be shown on the stage at the Delta Blues Museum.

 

The festival is free and open to all EXCEPT FOOD EVENTS (Friday's grand reception and buffet and Saturday's luncheon at CCC) which require advance reservations and tickets.  For more information contact Coahoma County Tourism at (662) 627-6149.
